Here are some study tools for your test on Thursday (OR Wednesday during class if you won't be here on Thursday).
1) Fill out Mrs. A's study guide that I gave you in class - try to use your notes and make sure you look at examples!
2) Use these resources if you need more information:
Photosynthesis (YAY PLANTS!) and energy movement through ecosystems:
a) Watch the video clip and review the diagram: http://www.culbrethscience8.blogspot.com/2012/11/illuminating-photosynthesis.htmlb)Watch this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgYPeeABoUs
c) Review your trophic levels lab!
d) Put the following in a food chain and decide what trophic level they are at: shrew, grasshoppers, fox, grass (answer in comments below)
e) Is a mushroom a producer or a decomposer? (answer in comments below)
Relationships in Ecosystems (use slides 6-11):
a) http://science-class.net/PowerPoints/Relationships%20in%20Ecosystems.pptRandom fact: I LOVE LICHEN! What type of relationship creates lichen? (answer in comments below)
Carbon Cycle (YAY TREES!):
a) Watch this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3SZKJVKRxQb) Harry Potter and the Carbon Cycle video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShP5SUuTtJ0
This is the Carbon Cycle! Review the diagram. |
Nitrogen Cycle (YAY BACTERIA!):
a) Review the information from Mrs. A: http://www.culbrethscience8.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-nitrogen-cycle.htmlb) ONE DIRECTION NITROGEN CYCLE! WOOT!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzoR6UtIOao
c) Is nitrogen in pure gas form useful to most living organisms? What can make nitrogen useful to more organisms? (answer in comments below)
This is a diagram of the nitrogen cycle! Review it. |
Energy Resources:
a) Mrs. A's blog!!! (use the Prezi on energy resources for the back of the study guide!)
b) Review the diagram below to see how the US uses energy resources:
Think about it: Which sources do we use the most? Why? Which should we use the most of? Why? (my answer in comments below) from: cleangreenenergyzone.com |
Study Tips
1) Study! Use the study guide and the information above! Personally, I really like to make word webs and use markers to make study guides.
2) Remember that you do know this material. You don't need to freak out and think you don't know it!
3) Ask questions before the test. You can post them as comments and I will answer them tonight.
GOOD LUCK!
Ms. Nickel
Answers:
ReplyDeletePhotosynthesis:
d) grass (1st trophic level) - grasshopper (2nd trophic level) - shrew (3rd trophic level) - fox (4th trophic level)
e) mushrooms are decomposers
Relationships in ecosystems:
a) Lichen is a mutualistic relationship between algae and bacteria.
Nitrogen Cycle:
c) Nitrogen in the atmosphere is not useful to most living organisms. It has to be "fixed" by bacteria.
Energy Resources:
b - diagram): We use patroleum, natural gas, and coal the most - these are nonrenewable sources that cause pollution and environmental destruction, so I think we should use renewable sources as much as possible. I also think we should use less energy in general.
